Dear Lucy,

Back when Kurtis got adopted, I wrote him a letter because he had THAT much of an impact on my life. Lucy had just the same amount of impact just in a different way so it’s only fitting that I write a letter to my sweet Lucy…. Dear Lucy, It’s Sunday and I’m supposed to be cleaning my house but the house seems a little empty without you here so I decided to write you a letter instead. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t get attached to you but the exact......

Wet, but not Wild!

So Penny and Elvis got to go to the beach a few days ago. It wasn’t their first time there but it was their first time being at the beach since they got their CGC certification and you know what I noticed about them? Not much…Penny was still well behaved, stayed right next to us while we walked on the beach. She always had her eyes on us unless she was jumping into the waves chasing the ball. And Elvis? Well, Elvis was Elvis…greeting just about every girl (human and dog) that crossed......

Make a Difference, Start in your Own Community!

Yesterday I went to my first city council meeting as a representative of the Priceless Pets Pittie Crew. While this may not sound like a big deal to most of you, it was a HUGE deal to me. First of all, I never thought I would ever end up at one of these meetings and I gotta admit, I thought it was pretty cool. I felt like I was at a big congressional meeting. Lol All jokes aside, minus a few important members, the pittie crew was there in full force! Our......

So You Found a Dog...

So yesterday I’m at the pound with Ashlee Price pulling a dog from a high kill shelter. While we were waiting for the dog to come out a family came in the room and a boy kept saying, “You have my dog!” “My dog is here!” He was so excited he must have said those two things about 10 times in 5 seconds. The lady calmly told him where he needed to go to get his dog and that was that. However, it has led to today’s post because I’m here to......

My Challenge to Charlotte Alter and TIME Magazine

So as most of you know already, there was an article in Time Magazine titled, “The Problem With Pit Bulls”. I’m not going to get into my feelings about it and I’m not here to bash Charlotte Alter. However, I find it hard to believe that she’s ever been around a “pit bull” or a bully breed because if she had, she wouldn’t have put out such a biased article. And if she was looking to get attention, I’m sure she got it in the form of hate mail which I’m sure......

Jawbreaker

“No one said that this life was easy, did that no one ever live a life this hard?” (Blake Schwarzenbach, Jawbreaker) I must admit, growing up, I was led to believe that pit bulls and bulldogs had “lockjaw”. It’s this crazy idea that these dogs have jaws that actually “lock” when they bite and that’s why they don’t let go. People that actually owned these dogs would tell me this and I believed it. My mom also used to tell me that if I made mean face at someone that my face......

Just a Little Patience…

So you finally decided to save a life and adopt a dog. You’ve bought everything you need; you’ve read up on their breed(s) and spent enough time with this animal at the rescue to create enough of a bond to bring your new furry friend home. Congratulations! Then reality hits and you get hit with, “The dog won’t eat.” “I think the dog is depressed.” “The dog doesn’t listen to me.” “The dog doesn’t love me.” “The dog doesn’t seem excited to see me.” All these “issues” usually result in the doing......

Canine Good Citizen Certified

So this past weekend, Penny Lane and Elvis were officially CGC certified! For those of you who don’t know, CGC  stands for Canine Good Citizen. It’s a two part program that stresses responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. No, I don’t need a badge or certificate to prove to people that my dogs are good but it goes a long way in proving that my “killer pit bulls” are not monsters or “unpredictable”. There are surrounding cities near me that require you to muzzle your pit bull if they are......

You Gotta Fight... For Your Right!

Back in February of this year I saw a post on Instagram by Priceless Pets of a sweet puppy that said “can I crash on your couch for a while?” That was the moment my life changed forever…  I had been going through a depression that I thought would NEVER end when Priceless Pets allowed me to help by fostering 8, yes 8, 5 week old puppies for 2 weeks. On my last day with the babies at their adoption event my 5 year old daughter fell in love with a sweet......

Handle Your Responsibility!

Well, I was gonna to today’s post about the success of the Priceless Pets Pittie Crew Pack Walk but I needed to address something that I wanted to get off my chest. I know I’ve written about this before but for some reason it’s been extra bad this week and it usually starts off with a text or a phone call that start of something like this…. “So I (or my friend) have this dog and they’re a really good dog but I (they) just don’t have time for them anymore. I......

My Pit Bull is Family - Let's Lick Discrimination!

Tomorrow I will be writing about the success of the 1st ever Priceless Pets Pittie Crew Pack Walk! Today, however, I want to start highlighting other websites that advocate for pittie owners and help the cause. www.mypitbullisfamily.com is a website dedicated to one main goal: to end insurance and housing discrimination of pit bulls & their families. We were lucky enough to have them join our Pack Walk! If you were there I’m sure you saw them there with their banner and their go pro! It was a pleasure having them there and if you haven’t......

Freeze Frame by Lara Jenkins

As a kid toting around a 35mm toy camera, Lara Jenkins has had a love to capture the most important moments of her life. Whether it was shooting pictures of her friends splashing around in the pool, various family shots, or taking pictures of her girlfriends, Lara had a gift for making time freeze at the most opportune time. Her true love, however, was taking photos of her childhood pets. As Lara got older she started to work on her craft but it wasn’t until the birth of her son that she......

Forget the pound, give me some Knuckles

So last Friday, Priceless Pets sent me and fellow Pittie Crew member, Terra, to a high kill shelter to evaluate a senior pit bull named Knuckles. I wasn’t really given any information on him which is actually the way I like it. Usually when you first meet these dogs, they’re SO excited to see you. It’s almost like they know why you’re there and these dogs (especially the pitties) usually know how to impress an evaluator! When they first brought Knuckles out, something was different about him. He was interested in everything......

With a Little Help from my Friends

So right after Kurtis got adopted, I had a dog named Lucy come to my house as my next foster. Then shortly after that, I had Amber come in with a pretty bad case of scabies….then Fairfield ….and then senior beagle Wally. Somewhere in between all that was my foster Lucy. She had learned to get along with the dogs in the house really well but was pretty much a mess every time I took her in public and on the Sunday hikes. For those of you that don’t know you can......

1st Ever Priceless Pets Pittie Crew Pack Walk

So tomorrow is the 1st ever Priceless Pets Pittie Crew Pack Walk! We will have over 100 dogs walking in support of the bully breeds! We will have dogs of ALL breeds walking with us to show people that “man’s best friend” includes ALL dogs…even the “pit bull”. We will have raffles, an education booth, a microchipping clinic and signups for one of Priceless Pet’s FREE spay/neuter clinics! I’m so excited to see the community come together for this event and it’s so refreshing to see people who don’t own bully breeds......

What "No-Kill" Means to Me

Maybe about twice a month a Girl Scout troop comes in to drop off donations and I give them a tour of, The Orphanage. They get to play with dogs and pet the kittens but before all of that I ask the troop one question, “Do you know what a no-kill shelter is?” I get a variety of answers and some of these girls are spot on. There is an ongoing debate whether or not actually helps the overpopulation of animals and today I’m going to give you my views… For almost......
