Freeze Frame by Lara Jenkins
by John Flores
As a kid toting around a 35mm toy camera, Lara Jenkins has had a love to capture the most important moments of her life. Whether it was shooting pictures of her friends splashing around in the pool, various family shots, or taking pictures of her girlfriends, Lara had a gift for making time freeze at the most opportune time. Her true love, however, was taking photos of her childhood pets. As Lara got older she started to work on her craft but it wasn’t until the birth of her son that she started capturing every “first” that happened in his life.
Lara is a volunteer with Priceless Pets. She’s one of 3 amazing photographers that Priceless Pets is blessed to have. She has a style that’s all her own and when you get to know her work, a person can look at a picture and say, “That’s a beautiful shot. Lara shot that, didn’t she?” While most people “take” pictures of their pets, Lara has a gift for “capturing moments” of these animals.
My tie to Lara goes back about a year before I started volunteering with Priceless Pets. She was the first person I spoke to about fostering during a mobile event at Petco. And about a year and a half later, she was the girl that actually picked up Elvis from the pound the day he was set to be euthanized. This is why having her shoot photos of Elvis (and Penny) meant so much to me. Plus, I just love her work and the style of her pictures. In fact, it was one of her pictures that was seen on Instagram that got Pepper adopted!
Whether she’s shooting a wedding, engagement photos, or animals, all one needs to do is look at the pictures on her website and you will see where her passion lies. Lara’s pictures actually SAVE animals. Her photos can capture the personality of a dog without ever having to say a word about the dog. Having Lara shoot my dogs was quite an honor for me and as you can see in the pictures, Penny and Elvis agree! EVERYONE has a gift but not everyone shares it. We are lucky that Lara Jenkins has agreed to share hers with us.
