RICO – Pet of the Month – May 2014 (ADOPTED)
by John Flores
Pit Bull Terrier :: Male (neutered)
Hello, my name is Rico and I am looking for my furrever home and family. I grew up on the streets with my owner who was a homeless man. I had to protect him, he was my best friend.
I had to fight for my food just to simply survive. I was picked up off the streets and had a severe slash in my arm that went down to the bone. After animal control picked me up I got neutered and had a really bad reaction. Even though I’ve been through so much, I am still in great spirits. The amazing vets gave me medicine and strict instructions and now I am all healed up!
I have a lot of love to give and will roll over and show you my belly when you pet me. I love being pet and loved on and I promise I will return that love to you if you give me a chance. I like to sit right on top of my foster moms lap because she thinks it’s so funny! I love toys, they are the best thing ever! I will play and pounce around with them in my mouth. I never had my own toys before. The squeaky ones are my favorite! I have a lot of energy so if you want to go on walks or hikes, to the beach or park, or play fetch I would love to come along then curl up next to you to watch some tv or just hang out.
I love kids and love to play with them and lick them but I am also very gentle. I am about 1-2 years old and I’m not very big. I am also kennel trained and don’t mind hanging out in my kennel when I need to. I love playing with other dogs and get along with them well! Just please don’t let anyone pick on me since I’ve already been beat up on the streets.
My foster mom has been working with me to help train me and develop better manners so I need someone who is willing to take the training I’ve had and continue working with me. I don’t want to forget all my good new behaviors I’ve learned. I go places with my foster mom because I love car rides and I don’t want to brag but people compliment her on how well behaved I am a lot. Please consider me as becoming part of your family!

I love the little film clip, although it breaks my heart too 🙁 But it gives Rico and so any other adoptable dogs a “voice”.
My thoughts exactly, Kathy!
Kathy is my Nana John! I just watched this and at the end of it I was in Tears! You are giving him a voice and its so emotional and amazing. I’m so glad he’s been rescued and soon HE WILL GET A FOREVER HOME because of you!
I see being awesome is a trait in your family, Steph!! Thank you for all your support. I’m so glad we stayed friends throughout the years!
