Coast to Coast – New York Bully Crew
by John Flores
So this past weekend, I went to New York for the first time to help a buddy move. I was so excited to go on a road trip across the country (I even met a roaming pittie at a gas station in Indiana) even though I’m not sure how my head would handle being in a car that long and then flying back. However, this was one of my best friends and helping your friends move is a rule you must abide by, even if it’s across the country!
Now, when people visit New York for the first time, there’s always a list of places they want to visit. Usually it’s Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and whatever other place you see in almost every movie. While I must admit the New York skyline is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, I HAD to visit one place before I left and that was the New York Bully Crew! The New York Bully Crew is a non-profit much like Priceless Pets. However, they rescue mostly pit bulls. Even though they are based in New York, their reach is nationwide! Just like Priceless Pets, they are only able to operate strictly off donations so whether you’ve donated a dollar or thousands of dollars, YOUR donations play a HUGE role in the cycle of animal rescue. Yes, you can give yourself a pat on the back.
Upon arriving, I was so anxious to get there I didn’t even notice I had no music playing in the car until my buddy pointed it out. A friend of the NYBC had given them a heads up about me coming and when I got there, even though they were busy, everyone was so nice and welcoming. I first met Craig, who founded the NYBC in 2010. He was really nice but he was also super busy. I thanked him for everything he does for this breed and he smiled and said, “You’re welcome. I would do anything for this breed!” and went about his business.
Shortly after, I met Tiffany. After 5 minutes of meeting her I could tell she was involved in every facet of running the rescue. As busy as she was, she still took the time to ask about Priceless Pets and our Pittie Crew. It was nice to share stories with someone who “gets it” and even though she’s 3000 miles away she reminded me of all the awesome ladies at Priceless Pets! We talked about other shelters and pounds and I will never forget what she told me. She said, “This isn’t about who the best shelter is, this is about saving lives. And teamwork saves lives. We all just need to work together.” Just by the tone of her voice you could tell how dedicated she was to this breed and just animal rescue in general.
Most of the dogs I walked were rescued from dog fighting rings. These were some of the sweetest dogs ever. Dogs live in the NOW. Sure, they were trained by humans to kill their brothers and sisters for money but here they are, trusting humans again to save them. Dogs are so forgiving and it’s honestly one huge trait about them that more of us should instill in ourselves, myself included.
I even ran across a couple of dogs, Talula (forgive me if I butchered that name) and Diego that reminded me of Penny and Elvis. When Talula arrived to the rescue she was very shy and scared…until Diego came along. Sound familiar? Dogs help where humans can’t.
This was definitely an experience I will remember forever. Thank you New York Bully Crew for all you do. You all definitely inspire me to do just a little bit more! I have tickets to the Yankees/Red Sox game but the visit to your place alone has made my first time to New York unforgettable!
Hopefully, by the time you read this i am back home with my pups because I miss them like crazy.

Amazing! I’ve been following them for some time and hopefully I see the rescue one day 🙂
